Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura Again Recognized for Excellence in Breastfeeding Care; also achieves Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation

With a focus on providing top-quality care for the community’s oldest and youngest patients, Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura is proud to share two recent achievements: winning recognition once again for offering high-quality lactation care and additional assistance for breastfeeding families, and earning Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation.

Today, 20 million seniors visit emergency rooms nationwide. With the number of older adults growing rapidly, there’s a critical need for more older adult-focused care. The Geriatric Emergency Department Accreditation program is a national accreditation organization which aims to improve care for elders in a hospital emergency room and ultimately reduce hospital admissions and stays.

With this accreditation, Community Memorial Hospital-Ventura has demonstrated its commitment to adopting best practices for older adults in its emergency department, and its dedication to providing the best care possible for the community’s older adults.

This accreditation process promotes high quality care for elders in the emergency department by promoting enhanced staffing, education for all staff, geriatric-focused policies and protocols, a senior-focused physical environment, and an interdisciplinary care team to improve the assessment of older adults. Additional equipment like mobility aids and enhanced strategies for transitions of care for seniors is also part of this effort.

In another achievement focusing on care for babies and new moms, the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® (IBLCE®) and International Lactation Consultant Association® (ILCA®) recognized Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura for excellence in breastfeeding care by awarding the hospital with the IBCLC Care Award for 2025-2027. Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura has received this award many times previously, including for 2023-2025. International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® Care Award hospitals are recognized by the breastfeeding organizations for two years.

Community Memorial Hospital – Ventura received the award in recognition for staffing professionals who hold the prestigious International Board Certified Lactation Consultant certification and for providing a lactation program for breastfeeding families. In addition, the hospital demonstrated it has completed activities that help protect, promote, and support breastfeeding.

The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners® Care Award is given to hospitals, medical practices, clinics or agencies that staff professionals who hold the International Board-Certified Lactation Consultantcertification and provide a lactation program for breastfeeding families, among other requirements promoting top breastfeeding care. Hospitals that earn this award help families overcome breastfeeding challenges and provide support and accurate information. They assist families returning to work or school, help families in unusual situations such as breastfeeding more than one baby or nursing a sick or premature infant, and they help train nursing staff to manage basic breastfeeding care.
