Rare onboard access for media – come see 2 of the 8 barges in the entire state
WHAT:
The Port of Hueneme is hosting a press event to mark the arrival of its second STAX Engineering emissions capture and control barge. This innovative vessel is one of only eight operating in California. With TWO now operational across both of the port’s terminals, the Port of Hueneme is building upon its status as a national leader in portside air quality while charging forward to zero emissions by 2030. A clear ZE30 roadmap will make the Port of Hueneme the first ZE port in the nation within five years.
This is a rare opportunity for members of the press to board and explore one of the STAX barges in person. STAX Engineering’s technology is unmatched in maritime emissions control, and its barges capture exhaust from at-berth ships and removes harmful pollutants, including 99% of particulate matter (PM) and 95% of nitrogen oxides (NOx). This is especially important for operating ports like Hueneme, which borders several residential communities.
WHY IT MATTERS:
- The Port of Hueneme now operates 2 of only 8 STAX barges in CA.
- Rare behind-the-scenes access to breakthrough emissions capture technology.
- Only 8 barges exist in the state—and the Port of Hueneme now operates 2 of them.
- STAX’s barges have a major positive impact on local air quality. It protects the environment and community health while helping California meet its ambitious climate goals.
- The Port’s Zero Emissions by 2030 (ZE2030) puts it on track to become the first ZE port in the nation—and possibly the world—by the end of 2030.
