FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Central Coast, CA, January 29, 2025 – This past weekend, People’s Self-Help Housing (PSHH) celebrated 10 owner-builder families as they completed construction on and moved into their new neighborhood, Summer Holly Lane in Nipomo.
Since beginning the project in August 2023, each family committed over 40 hours a week to constructing their homes. Under the supervision and instruction of People's Self-Help Housing, the builders learned all the skills necessary to complete the majority of the labor themselves. After more than a year of hard work, owner-builders finally received the keys to their new homes and celebrated their tremendous accomplishments with a barbeque block party over the weekend.
“It’s amazing to see the fruit from their labor and watch them achieve this dream of home ownership,” said Ken Trigueiro, PSHH CEO & President. “This is an excellent opportunity for these families and one that is hard to come by these days. This is why we keep doing what we’re doing after 55 years and we’re so grateful to be part of their stories.”
This newly constructed neighborhood of 10 two-story homes is located at the intersection of West Branch and North Thompson. Each three-bedroom home has sustainable features such as photovoltaic solar panels, energy efficient appliances and fixtures, and water efficient landscaping.
For the past 55 years, People’s Self-Help Housing has brought the stability and wealth-building opportunities of home ownership to the Central Coast. Over 1,200 homes later, they are still helping families realize the American Dream.
People’s Self-Help Housing secures land and then identify groups of families to build their homes together. This amazing program leverages the time, effort, and sweat-equity of neighbors working alongside each other to transform their hard work into the investment of a lifetime. Used in lieu of a cash down payment, and with the help of an affordable mortgage, this collective effort creates a sense of pride and long-lasting connections.
