The Ventura Chamber of Commerce & Ventura Chamber YPG thank the Ventura Auto Center for their generous contribution to make this quarterly list of non-profit board/committee opportunities available to our members.

A Heart of an Angel
Provide outdoor exercise enrichment programs, education, leadership, physical and spiritual fitness for children, building strength, character and confidence in the whole child, mind body and spirit.
 
Positions Available:  Volunteers for Fit Camp, Board Members, Special Event Committee Members, Advisory Council.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Volunteers for Fit Camps, Monday and Wednesday 3:30-5:00, Seasonal, Summer Fit Camp 9:45-12:15 Monday and Wednesday.  Board Meetings, 2nd Tuesday @7:30am, Monthly Board Meetings, attend Special events, fundraises, Fit Camp Schedule 2 to 4 days a week depending on seasons, examples on times above. 
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 1- 12 depending on the event.
 
Skillsets desired: Passion for serving youth, social media skills, graphics design, creative fun fundraiser ideas, tech support, need some millennial blood to help with technology, grant writing, Athletic trainers, we are growing!   Financial contribution either give or get $500 per term, (2-year term) so that we have a Board that is 100% contributing. This helps with grants.

A Voice Discovered
The ability to communicate is a fundamental human right.  Therefore, it is the mission of this foundation to provide FUNDING ASSISTANCE, FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EDUCATION, SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY to enhance the quality of life for individuals with communication impairments and thus benefit families and their extended community through (access to) appropriate technology resulting in improved communication means.
 
Positions Available:  Potential Board Member, committee member/leader depending on the person’s interest.  Looking for people with expertise or experience in Grant Writing, Accounting, Marketing/Advertising, Fundraising, Volunteer & Intern Management, Project Management (i.e. social club or AAC pen pals, etc), Social Media, Graphic Design, and Special Events.  
 
Time/Day of required meetings: 4 board meetings per year but may meet additional times in between board meetings for specific programs and events (e.g., camp, fundraisers, grant programs, etc).  Meet either Monday or Wednesday morning for 90 minutes, but depending upon everyone’s schedule may also meet in the evenings if needed.  
 
Approximate hours per month commitment:  Depends on the position and whether it was for special events, grant writing etc.  Social media might be an hour a week or less depending on the time of year (e.g., Giving Tuesday).  Grant writing would also depend upon the time of year and hours would fluctuate based on when certain grant cycles are happening.  Typically, a few hours a month at most.

Autism Society Ventura County
The mission of the Autism Society Ventura County is to improve the lives of all affected by Autism. We work to promote lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals within the autism spectrum and their families to be fully included members of the community.
 
Positions Available:  Board Members, Advocacy Committee Members (advocating at county, city and school board levels for individuals with Autism and other disabilities), Marketing Committee Members and Grant Committee Member.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Board Meetings- 2nd Wednesday 6-8PM in Camarillo, Marketing Committee- 4th Monday 4-5PM, virtual and Advocacy Committee- Varies, 1 hour training required.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 3-5 hours minimum per month.
 
Skillsets desired: Board Members- financial, marketing, fundraising skillsets, and local connections. Grant Writers.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County (BBSVC)
Our mission is to build and professionally support one-to-one mentoring relationships to ignite the power and promise of youth.
 
Positions Available: Board Director, Multiple Committee Member positions (events, organizational, etc.) and Volunteer Mentor.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Board Meetings - every other month, 3rd Wednesday with ad hoc meetings or calls in between, Committee Meetings - scheduled monthly. Volunteer Mentors - required to meet with their "Little" (mentee) for 2-4 hours every other week.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: - Board/Committee - 5-10 hours per month. Volunteer Mentors - 8-16 hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired: We serve youth of all backgrounds with all interests, and we want our Board, Committees, and Volunteer Base to reflect that diversity as well. All skillsets welcome.

Girl Scouts of California’s Central Coast
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
 
Positions Available: Troop Leaders, Special Event Volunteers, Program Ambassadors.
 
Time/Day of required meetings:  TBD
 
Approximate hours per month/commitment: Commit to Events, a Program or a Troop commitment is: 4 to 6 hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired:  Share your skills and knowledge, be an organized leader, fun and engaging.

Humane Society of Ventura County 
The Humane Society of Ventura County is dedicated to promoting the health, safety, welfare, compassionate care, and protection of all animals through education and community outreach programs.  
 
Positions Available: Event Committee Member and Education Committee Member.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Various meeting times, some in person and some via zoom.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 2-6 hours per month. 
 
Skillsets desired: event planning, securing donations for auction, media relations, creativity, likes working with people & or children, assisting children with crafts or other activities.

MERITO Foundation
To protect our coast and ocean by empowering our region's multicultural youth and their communities through ocean and climate education, hands-on nature conservation, participation in scientific research, and advocacy.
 
Positions Available: Board Members, Board Advisors, Volunteers Corp Coordinator, and/or Special Event Committee Members (all volunteer positions). Training will be provided according to experience. 
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Board meetings are quarterly (2 hours) + committee quarterly meetings alternated (2 hours) + 1 yearly retreat (8-12 hours min.) + volunteer to help in education, outreach, advocacy, and/or fundraising events of choice and as needed (6 hours min., 5 events/year) + 12 hours/ year clerical (email messages & reading reports).
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: Minimum 70 hours per year (average 6 hours per month).
 
Skillsets desired: We have a special interest in young professionals who are passionate about environmental and social justice and have an academic background and/or experience in business, business law, marketing, or accounting.

National MS Society / Bike Leadership Team
Cure MS and help those living with it to lead their best lives.
 
Positions Available: Bike Leadership Team.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Not required, but meetings are typically Wednesday evening at 6pm over Microsoft Teams online (can phone in).
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: n/a
 
Skillsets desired:  Marketing, social media, graphic design, knowledge of local businesses, relationships with corporations and local businesses, knowledge of local biking communities and bike shops, passion to find a cure for MS and passion for biking.

The Ojai Film Festival
The Ojai Film Festival is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) California corporation dedicated to supporting the art of the motion picture through the presentation of an annual multi-day festival in which films submitted by filmmakers throughout the world are publicly exhibited at several venues in and around the City of Ojai.
 
Positions Available: Board Members, and Special Events, Marketing, Operations and Advisory Committee Members.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Varies - mostly evenings via Zoom.
 
Approximate hours per month/commitment: 5 - 10 hours per month more in October and November.
 
Skillsets desired: Greeting people, setting up tables and chairs, contacting potential sponsors, creating spreadsheets, hospitality, coordinating special events.

Pier into the Future
To preserve and enhance the historic Ventura Pier.
 
Positions Available: Pier Under the Stars volunteers for the day of the event (October 1, 2023, 3 hour shifts to help set up, monitor event entrance, etc.  Shifts start at 3pm and go until 8pm.),  Special Events Committee (year-round), volunteers to help spruce up the Pier once a month.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: evenings, usually 1-2 hours a month
 
Skillsets desired: Event planning, fundraising and securing donations for auction, media relations, creativity, light labor (staining benches, removing graffiti, picking up trash).

Reel Guppy Outdoors 
Our mission is to provide a positive environment for youth using experience with an emphasis in education, life building lessons, leadership, stewardship and team building.
 
Positions Available: Board, fundraising, organization, infrastructure, data keeping and outreach.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Our learning center location is open, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons some Saturdays and we do an event on the fourth Sunday of each month at the pier.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: Board meetings are every other month and last about an hour and a half. Looking for perhaps 10 hours per month of help in the areas listed above.

The Salvation Army

Skillsets desired: Communication, marketing and social media.

Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG)
The Mission of SEEAG is to Educate students and the greater community about the farm origins of their food and agriculture's contribution to our nutritional well-being through hands-on classroom and outdoor experiential STEM based learning. 
 
Positions Available: Farm Day event committee member.
 
Time/Day of required meetings:  One hour a month via Zoom and in person meetings.  Dates to be announced. 
 
Approximate hours per month commitment:  One hour, training will be provided.
 
Skillsets desired: We have special interest in young professionals who are passionate about agriculture, farming and education and have an academic background in marketing, business or education.

Step Up Ventura
Step Up Ventura provides children experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness the opportunity to flourish by preparing them for kindergarten.
 
Positions Available: Vice President, Board Member, Fund Development, Events, Operations, and Communications committees. 
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Board meetings are on the 2nd Monday of the month in the evening. Committee meetings are monthly in the mornings or evenings.  
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: Board positions require 5 to 10 hours per month and Committee positions require 2 to 5 hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired: Team player, kind, positive and passionate about helping change the lives of children experiencing homelessness or on the verge of homelessness.

Ventura College Foundation
The Ventura College Foundation transforms students’ lives through education by providing innovative and vital resources and financial support.  The Foundation collaborates with Ventura College to enhance human potential, civic engagement, careers, and academic success of students enabling their effective impact and legacy on the college, local workforce, and our community.
 
Positions Available: Scholarship and Grants Committee, Program Sustainability Committee, Investment Committee, Scholarship Reading and Event Volunteers.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Committee Meetings typically meet one or two times a quarter at 5pm. Days of meeting vary from quarter to quarter. Scholarship Reading starts in February and typically ends in the first week of March. Event volunteers are called upon throughout the year to help out with a variety of events. 
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: Committee meetings are an hour to an hour and half each quarter. Scholarship Readers hours vary, reading is done at your own pace and as many scholarships as you would like to read. Helping with an event can be from an hour to three hours.
 
Skillsets desired: Those who have a passion for education and want to make a difference in the lives of Ventura College students.

Ventura County Ballet
Expanding awareness and enjoyment of ballet in ways accessible to all. Through annual educational programs for thousands of children in local schools, outreach events, community partnerships, scholarships, and free tickets, we bring live dance to underserved children, senior citizens and other populations who otherwise could not experience the joy of dance.
 
Positions Available: Board Member (4 seats open).
 
Time/Day of required meetings: 2nd Friday of the month, every other month, 11:30am-1pm.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 10
 
Skillsets desired: Marketing, bookkeeping, grant writing and administrative.

Ventura Family YMCA
As a leading nonprofit, the Y is committed to strengthening communities throughout the nation. Your local Y seeks to fill gaps in community services and develop activities, strengthening communities across Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. Believing that everyone should have the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive, the Y nurtures potential and brings people of diverse backgrounds together. The Y has a local presence and national reach, mobilizing local communities to affect lasting, meaningful change. The Channel Islands YMCA is a charitable organization providing programs based upon Christian principles to people of all ages, races, religious beliefs and economic status to promote Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility.
 
Positions Available: Board of Managers Position.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Last Friday of each month with July and December being dark.  10 meeting a year. Each meeting is an hour.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment:  One to one and a half hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired: Outspoken, connected with the community, connected with the Y is always helpful.  We would love to have representation from the agricultural community as well.

Ventura Friends of the Library
Fundraising for Ventura's 4 libraries and building library awareness in the community.
 
Positions Available: At Large Board Member in any of these 3 areas: 1) Special projects , i.e. organizing a booksale or planning annual meeting. 2) Market outreach - helping us identify customers for our extensive and varied collectible book inventory. 3)  IT support - helping with IT and social media.
 
Time/Day of required meetings:  3rd Thursday, 2pm Foster Library, Topping Room.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 6- 10 depending on the type of project.
 
Skillsets desired:  Administrative, good communication skills, social media experience, marketing skills, technology experience, interest in libraries, literacy and reading.

Ventura Land Trust
The mission of Ventura Land Trust is to permanently protect the land, water, wildlife and scenic beauty of the Ventura region for current and future generations.
 
Positions Available: We have several committees: Land (dealing with acquisition and setting organizational priorities for future acquisition), Stewardship (maintaining and improving the properties we own), Education, Development (fundraising), Finance and Special Events Committees.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Each committee generally meets once per month; times and dates vary (some meet in the morning, others meet in the late afternoon or evening)
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 2-4 hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired: Each committee has different skillsets that apply, as implied by the type of committee. The ideal candidate for all of them would be passionate about conservation and protecting open space in Ventura County.

The Ventura Police Community Foundation was established for the purpose of strengthening public safety and enhancing the quality of life in the community by providing support to the Ventura Police Department.
 
Positions Available: Committee members (event committee, grants committee, golf tournament committee) with potential to lead to board member.
 
Time/Day of required meetings: Once a month, 11:30-1pm on Wednesdays.
 
Approximate hours per month commitment: 5 hours per month.
 
Skillsets desired: Go getters that have time to dedicate to support our activities, community members willing to network on behalf of the foundation to fundraise.
