School Closures Advisory Committee Applications Now Open

📢 School Closures Advisory Committee Applications Now Open
At the most recent Board of Education meeting, the Board directed staff to begin developing a process to determine whether any schools should be considered for closure in the coming years. This process will be guided by clear, data-based criteria and a commitment to transparency.
As VUSD continues to experience declining enrollment and with approximately 300 fewer students enrolling per year, we must carefully evaluate how to best align our schools with future needs. Throughout this process, we remain committed to keeping our work open, transparent, and reflective of our district values.
As part of this work, a School Closures Advisory Committee will be formed to study the data, review the criteria, and bring a formal recommendation to the Board. The committee is expected to begin meeting in March 2026, meet monthly, and provide a recommendation by October 2026. If the Board ultimately approves any closures, no school would close before the 2027–2028 school year.
We are now accepting applications for community members interested in serving on this important committee.
