Ventura, CA – Bike 4 A Cause is thrilled to announce its Learn 2 Ride Day Ribbon Cutting Event on Saturday, November 23rd at Westpark Community Center, 450 W Harrison Avenue, Ventura, from 10 am to 6 pm. This family-friendly, free event provides children, teens, adults, and parents the opportunity to learn bike safety, practice riding skills, and foster confidence in a supportive environment. The event will feature a keynote speech by former CA Senator Omer Rains at 3 pm, beginning with a Chumash Blessing, a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, and remarks by Bart Bluel from the Kiwanis Club of Ventura, James Forsythe, Ventura Unified School District Board of Education Trustee, and community mental health advocate Sade Champagne. Local, county, and state government officials and representatives are also expected to attend.
Senator Rains, renowned for his public service and legislative accomplishments, will deliver the keynote address. He has played a pivotal role in securing public access to Ventura’s beaches through landmark legislation and laid the foundation for Ventura’s Promenade, officially named the Omer Rains Bikeway. With a legacy that spans decades, including his role as a personal advisor to Nelson Mandela, Senator Rains has profoundly impacted both local and global communities. “Senator Omer Rains has done more to advance women’s rights and equality under the law than any legislator in California history,” said the President of the National Women's Political Caucus.
Senator Rains, along with his daughter Jessica Rains, is an active member of the Bike 4 A Cause Advisory Board. Through his generosity, children who learn to ride at the event will receive free Bike 4 A Cause T-shirts to commemorate their achievements.
In addition to promoting bike safety, Bike 4 A Cause is dedicated to supporting mental wellness and strengthening family bonds. At each event, families learn to work together as children gain confidence, celebrate small victories, and enjoy time outdoors. Donations raised will support the Youth Bike Competition Program, which helps fund trophies, prizes, and bikes for participants. Last year, in collaboration with Ventura Unified School District, the program’s pilot engaged 114 middle school students, who collectively rode 3,330 miles. This competition provides a healthy alternative to screen time, encouraging kids to connect with their peers, engage in physical activity, and build confidence.
“We’re honored to have Senator Rains as our keynote speaker,” said Carlos Landeros-Angel, Founder & CEO of Bike 4 A Cause. “As a Bike Safety Instructor for VUSD, I saw firsthand how important it is for kids to get outside, ride safely, and have supportive activities to help them thrive. The Youth Bike Competition Program is one way we help make that possible.”
Event Highlights
Learn 2 Ride Day events are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month at Arroyo Verde Park and the 4th Saturday at Westpark Community Center, running from 10 am to 6 pm.
